SaaS Link Building
Uniqode
Rebuilding a SaaS backlink profile from the ground up to compete with category-defining incumbents.

Part 01
Project Overview
Uniqode came to the table with a strong product and a thin backlink profile relative to the incumbents dominating 'QR code generator' and 'digital business card' search results. The goal was straightforward to state and hard to execute: earn the kind of editorial links that actually move a competitive SaaS category.
Part 02
The Client Challenge
Uniqode's target keywords were owned by a handful of category leaders with a decade of accumulated backlinks. Their existing link profile was thin, generic, and skewed toward low-relevance directories that weren't moving rankings for any of their commercial pages.
Part 03
Campaign Objectives
- Close the referring domain gap against the top three category competitors
- Earn links specifically to commercial and comparison pages, not just the homepage
- Diversify anchor text away from exact-match, brand-heavy patterns
- Build a repeatable monthly placement cadence the internal team could sustain
Part 04
Research
We ran a full competitor backlink gap analysis in Ahrefs across the three top-ranking QR and digital ID platforms, isolating referring domains that linked to two or more competitors but not to Uniqode. That list became the seed for outreach, layered with fresh prospecting on martech blogs, event-tech roundups and product comparison sites.
Part 05
The Solution
The strategy combined guest posts on martech and productivity publications with niche edits on already-ranking 'best QR code generator' and 'best digital business card' listicles, plus targeted placements on event-tech and hospitality-industry blogs where Uniqode's use cases were a natural fit.
Execution
How the Campaign Was Run
Prospect scoring & shortlisting
Every prospect from the competitor gap analysis was scored on topical relevance, real organic traffic and editorial standards before entering outreach.
Personalized outreach sequencing
Multi-step, hand-written outreach sequences were run through BuzzStream, referencing specific content on each target site rather than generic templates.
Content collaboration
Guest posts were drafted around genuinely useful angles — QR code use cases in retail, events and hospitality — rather than thinly-veiled product pitches.
Placement & verification
Every live placement was logged with DR, anchor text and target URL, then re-checked monthly to confirm the link was still live and still followed.
Campaign Highlights
42 guest posts placed on martech and productivity publications
38 niche edits secured inside existing 'best QR code generator' roundups
Anchor text mix rebalanced to 70% branded/naked URL, 30% topical
Monthly reporting dashboard covering DR, traffic and ranking movement

Key Learnings
- Comparison-page niche edits outperformed guest posts on speed-to-impact for commercial keywords
- Anchor diversity mattered more than raw link volume for sustained ranking gains
- Use-case-specific content (events, hospitality) opened outreach doors generic pitches couldn't
Client Outcome
Within nine months Uniqode moved from page two to consistently ranking in the top five for its core category terms, with organic traffic becoming a meaningful share of new trial signups.
